In English-speaking tradition
Flying dreams are amongst the most widely discussed in English-speaking folklore and popular dream interpretation, traditionally regarded as a highly auspicious sign foretelling ambition, liberation, and coming success. Classic nineteenth-century British dream books, such as those in the almanac tradition, commonly interpreted soaring flight as an omen of prosperity and rising social standing. The idiom "to fly high" and phrases such as "on the wings of success" reflect the deep cultural association between flight and achievement in the English-speaking world. In American popular culture, flying dreams are frequently cited in self-help literature as emblems of the subconscious mind breaking free from earthly constraints, an idea given vivid form in works ranging from J. M. Barrie's *Peter Pan* to countless superhero narratives.
